TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
As singers, we often feel like our voice is who we are. After all, it is not like any other instrument that one can put away after a performance or rehearsal. Our instrument is exercised practically every day, whether that is intentional or not. Because of this inseparable nature, singing can feel like a deeply personal act, especially when we put our voice and who we are out there for everyone else. As a teacher, I aim to celebrate and honor your individuality, identity, and artistry and help you discover your most authentic voice. Your personal and artistic aspirations are my main priority.
In the studio, I empower my students to understand the function of their voice and, together, create a toolkit of knowledge, practices, and exercises that give them confidence in their vocal ability and freedom over their artistic process.
Additionally, I recognize that the voice studio provides an opportunity to integrate necessary artistic skills to culminate the development of performance and mindset, some of which include empathy, responsibility, self-awareness, determination, and creativity. I actively engage my students to cultivate these traits and qualities alongside their technique.
My training and background in vocal pedagogy and voice science guide my methodology and practices. Working alongside some of the industry’s leading pedagogues at New York University as an Adjunct Instructor of Voice and master’s student, I remain at the forefront of the latest research and information guiding singers and professionals. Additionally, I consider myself a life-long learner, always trying to expand my knowledge to best serve my students.
